Uttoxeter Canal volunteer work party

Event date:
Thursday, 12 March, 2015 - 10:00 to Friday, 13 March, 2015 - 14:45
Venue:
Crumpwood Weir, between Denstone and Alton
Event organiser:
Caldon & Uttoxeter Canals Trust
Event Description:

Our monthly Uttoxeter Canal work parties carry out vegetation management and other tasks in the area near to Bridge 70. On this occasion we will again be working at Crumpwood Weir, removing ivy and other vegetation from around the structure. All tools and equipment will be provided. Volunteers are advised to wear old clothes, stout shoes and to bring waterproofs in case of rain and a packed lunch if staying all day.

No parking is available at the site so please meet at 9.30am at Denstone Village Hall, College Rd, Denstone, Uttoxeter, Staffordshire ST14 5HR for a lift, or meet on site at 10am having made your own way on foot or bicycle. Head down the old railway track for about a mile from either Denstone or Alton. When you see the newly laid section of towpath (on the right is coming from Denstone; left from Alton) go down this to Bridge 70. Continue past the bridge and through the gateway. Continue along the roadway for a few hundred yards until you reach a small group of old buildings and the Weir on the right.

This work party is jointly led by the Inland Waterways Association North Staffordshire & South Cheshire Branch and Caldon & Uttoxeter Canals Trust.

Please let us know if you are planning to attend so we can make sure there are sufficient tools for everyone. Contact Steve Wood: email: steve.wood@cuct.org.uk, tel: 07976 805858.
